In Depth Laos Tour - 10 Days - Tour Route: Luang Prabang - Xieng Khouang - Vientiane - Pakse - Khong Island - Pakse
Day 2: Luang Prabang Sightseeing
If you like, observe the Morning Alms Giving Ritual in the early morning at 5:40 am, from which you'll have an understanding of local people's piety towards their religion. After breakfast, you will visit Wat Visoun, Wat Aham, and Wat Mai. And then you will visit the Royal Palace Museum. After lunch at a local restaurant, your guided tour for the afternoon starts with a local village of Lao minority groups at Ban Na Ouane Village; then, transfer to the beautiful Kuang Si Waterfall where you can splash around in the turquoise pools or walk along the forest trails. Return to the city by late afternoon to catch the sunset at Wat Phabath.
Day 3: Luang Prabang Sightseeing
After breakfast, you will enjoy a boat ride upstream on the Mekong River as well as an interesting visit to the mysterious Pak Ou Caves, which are crammed with thousands of gold lacquered Buddha statues of various shapes and sizes. Along the way, you will stop at the village of Ban Xanghai and Ban Xang Khong which are famous for Lao-Lao distilleries or traditional handicrafts. After the tour, back to Luang Prabang and you will have some free time to explore the city by yourself.
Day 4 : Luang Prabang - Xieng Khouang
Today, your journey starts by driving through the wonderful natural scenery to Xieng Khouang. En route, there will be plenty of opportunities for taking photos and visiting hill tribal villages. Upon arrival in Xieng Khouang, be prepared to be wowed by Site 1 of the Plain of Jars, which is claimed to be created 1,500 years ago and is of profound importance.
Day 5: Xieng Khouang Sightseeing
This morning, experience the local lifestyle in the Central Market. Then visit the UXO MAG Exhibition Room and Site 2 of Plain of Jars. On the way to Site 3 for scenic trekking, tour villages of Tai Dam people and Lao Leum people. Following lunch is a trip to the old capital of Muang Khoun and the nearby villages, which is home to the Hmong hill tribe and Tai Dam people.
Day 6 : Xieng Khouang - Vientiane
After breakfast, take a short flight to Vientiane. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for check-in and start visiting the major sights of the capital, including Wat Sisaket, the oldest temple with thousands of miniature Buddha statues, and the former royal temple Wat Prakeo, which previously housed the famous Emerald Buddha Image. En route to Lao’s national precious heritage That Luang Stupa, you will have a chance to take pictures of the imposing Patuxay Monument, well known as Vientiane’s Arc de Triumph.
Day 7 : Vientiane -Fly to Pakse
Travel to Pakse by air in the early morning. Upon arrival, head for Saravanh province via Tateng Village. You will make a stopover en route to observe the locals making tea and coffee - have a cup of either before exploring the cultures and the way of life along the way to the Boloven Plateau Area. Upon arrival at Tad Lo Waterfall, you will pay a visit to the villages of Alak, Nge, and Katu ethnic minority groups. Return to the town in the late afternoon.
Day 8 : Pakse - Khong Island
Today, you will be first transferred to the pre-Angkorian Ruins of Wat Phu, which give a great taste of Khmer temples. Then continue your way to the 4000 Islands Region and Khong Island, which is quite relaxing during the day while pretty at night. The rest of the day is in your hands.
